Quiet rooms. Unreasonable questions.

A RateHighway research initiative where design, product, data science, and operating experience examine the next questions in car rental revenue management.

Notes from the Lab · Research question 003

Two rental weeks can reach the same utilization rate and still tell different stories.

PROJECT APOGEE is a RateHighway research initiative. DeepRevenue is its code name. The subject is the future of car rental revenue management.

We want to understand what a single utilization number can hide: the source of demand, rental duration, cancellations and no-shows, fleet movement, competitor behavior, and the operator’s strategy. This is a research question, not a product or delivery commitment.

How the rooms work

Design, product, data science — one bench.

The teams do not work in separate queues. Design makes the idea visible. Product decides what the system can responsibly ask of the existing platform. Data science tests whether the idea is supported by evidence.

Data science stays specific to car rental: locations, vehicle classes, length of rent, one-way rentals, walk-up demand, cancellations and no-shows, and activity at the rental counter. If a method removes those details to look like a general model, it no longer solves the right problem. We can explore future ideas, but we do not invent release dates.

Expert in the loop

More intelligence. The operator stays in control.

The operator sets strategy and guardrails. The platform executes within them. Better intelligence can make the execution more responsive and the evidence more useful; it does not take responsibility away from the person running the revenue strategy.

  • The expert remains responsibleA recommendation must always be possible to reject.
  • Car rental or nothingLocations, vehicle classes, length of rent, one-way rentals, walk-up demand, and activity at the rental counter.
  • Research before scheduleThe laboratory explores ideas before putting them on a product calendar. RateHighway’s current products continue to ship.

What this is not

Not a product catalog. Not a second company.

We will not present research questions as product modules. The seven horizons are seven views of one connected problem, not seven products with separate prices.

RateHighway is the company. PROJECT APOGEE is its research initiative. DeepRevenue is the code name for the work. What the laboratory eventually develops remains deliberately unresolved.
